Lovable Dog Ronald Finds Forever Home After 14 Failed Adoptions, Thanks to Community Support and Shelter’s Storytelling

At animal shelters everywhere, dogs eagerly wait to find their forever families. However, despite shelters’ best efforts to encourage adoptions, not every dog finds a home quickly, and sometimes planned adoptions don’t pan out.

Recently, we shared the story of Ronald, a lovable dog who faced a series of challenges when 14 adoption attempts failed one after another. But Ronald’s spirits remained high, and his persistence finally paid off—he has now found a loving home!

Ronald, a charming young dog weighing 63 pounds, was sheltered at the Wake County SPCA. His size presented a unique challenge. His enthusiasm and large size often resulted in accidental tumbles—one jump was enough to knock someone over.

Being a young dog, he was still learning to manage his excitable behavior. He needed a patient family willing to train him and not intimidated by his size.

In an effort to find Ronald a home, the shelter wrote a blog post detailing his story. They counted on his cute puppy face to win hearts despite the setbacks he had experienced.

It was a case of bad luck that led to 14 unsuccessful adoption attempts primarily because potential adopters found him too big or too strong.

“He’s truly sweet, listens well, and gently takes treats,” noted the SPCA of Wake County in their post, describing him as a “really good boy.”

The attention from the blog post soon turned Ronald’s fortunes around. The shelter was hopeful that among the influx of adoption inquiries, someone would be a perfect match for Ronald.

Just days later, the shelter joyfully announced that Ronald had finally found his forever home. Photos shared by the SPCA show an overjoyed Ronald with his new family.

According to his new owners, Ronald has settled in well, especially enjoying the company of the children and becoming the apple of their eye. This adoption seems to be the lasting match Ronald was waiting for.

“We are immensely grateful for the outpouring of support and generous offers to help Ronald. Thanks to your enthusiasm for his story, Ronald’s situation reached nearly a million people in just a day,” the shelter reported.

It was a remarkable transformation that happened almost overnight, and the shelter expressed admiration for the power of community effort to change a life through just a keyboard.

Yet, Ronald is not the only dog hoping for a loving home. The shelter also cares for many other dogs of various shapes, sizes, and personalities. For instance, Siri, a three-year-old dog, has been waiting for 400 days to find her family.
