Beneath the robust build of some dogs lies a soft heart longing for companionship. This was precisely the case for King Tut, a dog who spent nearly five months at a shelter in Kansas City, Missouri.
From the day he was surrendered, King Tut, a misunderstood Pit bull, yearned for a friend, unaware that his life was about to transform dramatically.
King Tut’s journey to the shelter was marked by challenges. Arriving at KC Pet Project in Kansas City, he grappled with intense anxiety and stress.

All he wanted was a loving place where he could feel secure, but the confines of the kennel heightened his worries.
Enter Chris, an experienced foster caregiver, whose presence marked a turning point for King Tut. “He had been there for over 150 days. I fell in love. He had such a wiggly little body.
With him being so stressed in the kennel, I wanted to get him out as soon as possible,” Chris told The Dodo. Their bond was immediate, and King Tut found the foster dad he had needed.

Understanding King Tut’s troubled past, Chris was determined to provide the love and support necessary to help him heal. In turn, Chris gained a loyal and loving companion.
As King Tut adjusted to his new foster home, his affectionate nature quickly emerged. Despite his size, he behaved like a lap dog, often cozying up to Chris, basking in shared moments and developing a cherished morning routine.
“We started to do almost everything together. Even little things in my day, like getting ready… I view him as my partner in crime,” Chris explained.

King Tut embraced these moments, accompanying Chris in everyday activities like brushing hair or reading. His constant presence deepened their connection.
Of all their shared experiences, King Tut relished lounging on the couch, especially on Chris’s lap. While they enjoyed many fun times, snuggling was his ultimate delight.
As time went on, a bittersweet transition arrived. King Tut was prepared to step into a new foster home, paving the way to his forever family. “King Tut went to his new foster this afternoon.

If you were at the shelter today and saw a grown man sobbing quietly to himself, that was me,” Chris shared on Instagram. Despite the difficulty of parting, Chris felt thankful knowing that King Tut was on a path to the life he deserved.
“Just got an update from the adopter a few days ago and she said she is crazy in love with him. So he is living a very happy life,” Chris later mentioned.
Thanks to Chris’s dedication and compassion, King Tut is now thriving in a warm, loving home surrounded by people who adore him.
